Troubleshooting Issues You May Encounter
Why do colors/sharpness look slightly different after converting to WEBP?
Because converting to WEBP uses lossy compression to reduce file size, some colors or fine details may look a bit different from the original. This is especially noticeable with logos or very sharp graphics.
Why can’t I click “Download” for individual files?
The main reason is that the browser blocks multiple downloads in a row, or the processing is not yet finished. The solution is to try again or use the “Download All (ZIP)” button instead.
Why is the WEBP file size sometimes larger than the original?
If the original file is a JPG that was already compressed, or the image has a lot of complex details, converting to WEBP may not always reduce the size. In some cases, the resulting file can even be larger.
Why does converting large PNGs to WEBP take a long time?
Processing is done directly in your browser and can only handle a few files at once. If the PNGs are very large or you upload many images at the same time, the conversion will take longer—especially on devices with lower performance.
Why doesn’t the WEBP preview show the full-size image?
This happens because the browser reduces the preview size to save memory, especially when multiple files are open at once. The actual downloaded WEBP file remains complete and identical to the original.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How is WEBP different from JPG/PNG in technical terms?
WEBP is a newer format that uses more efficient compression than JPG, resulting in smaller file sizes while maintaining similar quality. It also supports transparent backgrounds like PNG.
Why can’t some apps open .webp files?
Some apps or devices still don’t support the WEBP format. If you can’t open the file, try using a browser or update to an app that supports WEBP.
Can I set the quality of WEBP conversion?
This tool automatically sets the quality at around 92% to balance sharpness and file size. If you want to reduce the size further, we recommend using the Image Compression Tool.
Will the WEBP keep transparency if the original PNG has a transparent background?
Yes. If your uploaded PNG has transparency, the converted WEBP will also preserve the transparent background.
If the original file is an animated image, will the WEBP also be animated?
No. This tool only supports still image conversion. If you upload an animated file, the result will be a static WEBP image.
